Day 224 - 225 - Carnarvon Blowholes / Gladstone Beach

After we had extended our stay at Bullara, we had some credit sitting on our account, the perfect excuse for tea and scones before we hit the road.

On our way north we spotted a sign for the blowholes north of Carnarvon. But with a 100km detour, we had passed it by the first time.

We can honestly say that we were impressed! Another "WOW" moment. The noise created is like a steam train coming out of a tunnel. And the sheer power of the waves crashing on the cliff was just incredible.

We drove down to the beach for a bit of a wander before heading into Carnarvon.

This was the first time that the school holidays had affected us. We drove around for about an hour before we found a campsite that still had space. After our long drive, we were pretty tired.

Day 225 - Gladstone Beach

Carnarvon is fruit growing country, so we went to get a ice cream. We had a black sapote one and a dragon-fruit one.

We then headed south to a place called Gladstone beach. We mostly went here because we had read that there were dugongs in the area. Unfortunately we were about 6 months too late but never mind.

In the evening there was a sausage sizzle, so we went to chat to various; mostly, grey nomads.

We were asked "are you the ones that have just arrived with the hatch-back and the tent?"

"oh no, we've been here for a couple of hours"

As the conversations continued we realised that most people stay at this remote beach campsite for 3-6 months, so in their minds, we had just arrived....

We have come south about 400km south and there is a notable temperature change. Particularly at night it is a lot cooler. Still an awful lot of flies around though.
