Day 217 - Snorkeling round 1

We got up and started the drive to Exmouth, this is one that we'd quickly get familiar with and being Australia it's nice and easy, sit on a straight road at 110kph and just keep going. On arrival in Exmouth we popped into the tourist information to hire some snorkels and flippers, with these obtained it was time to drive to Lakeside; this is one of the easiest locations to snorkel on the Ningaloo reef with no currents and easily accessible coral. Unlike on our trip to the Whitsunday Islands, parts of the reef can be reached after just a short swim from the beach. We had lunch before walking up to the snorkeling spot, we had a couple of 10 minute snorkels and didn't spend all of it coughing up sea water... Although the water is warm by UK standards without wet suits it gets cold quickly. Because of the tropical current coming through, we had the rather bizzare result of the water being colder inland, and warmer as you swam further out

On the way we spotted a dingo at the side of the road.

We then warmed up with a hot chocolate at the visitors centre before going to Turquoise bay for a small paddle.

After this we headed back to our camp site via Exmouth to drop off the snorkeling gear.

Till next time David & Joanna.
