Day 183-184 The Blue Mountains

About 60km inland of Sydney lies the Blue Mountains. These rise to 1100m, and are named because of the blueish haze that is always surrounding them.

As this is further inland, and more subject to colder weather, we treated ourselves to a Motel. The luxury of warmth, hot showers, en-suite and internet!

We were focusing our area around Katoomba. The best way to describe this is a clifftop overlooking the most enormous gorge. It is difficult to describe the enormity of this place, and I'm afraid that the photos will not do it justice. The Blue mountains is the first place in Australia that made us go 'Wow!'

The first place that we came to was the Wentworth falls. These were a little bit disappointing after New Zealand waterfalls, but our first view of the gorge, and the mountains was more than enough!

We went for a walk along the 'undercut path' to see some other falls, before we headed to Katoomba.

Once we arrived in Katoomba we checked into our Motel. This is situated within easy walking distance of the two main attractions in the area, and saved us from having to pay a high parking fee.

These two sites are the view point at Echo Falls, which overlooks the Three Sisters.

As it was getting dark, we headed back to the Motel for a warm and relaxing night.

The next morning, following suggestions from the Motel, we did a couple of short walks and went to several view points.

That afternoon we had a long drive north-east back to the coast.

Until next time

David & Joanna
